Implemenation of HST on July 1, 2010
The province of BC has enacted legislation to implement the harmonized sales tax (HST), which will replace the existing provincial sales tax (PST) and the federal goods and services tax (GST) in the province beginning July 1, 2010. The HST will be administered by the Canada Revenue Agency.
Basic Cable TV service and Basic landline telephone service were both tax exempt under the PST, but will now be taxable under the HST. In accordance, CityWest will begin charging an additional 7% tax on these items effective July 1st.
